Position: Maintenance Supervisor
Summary: The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating maintenance activities to ensure production standards are met safely and efficiently. This role involves managing maintenance personnel in line with company policies and legal requirements, and includes planning, leading, assigning work, training staff, and appraising performance. The goal is to maintain high employee relations standards while ensuring all maintenance processes align with safety regulations and production needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate work activities for maintenance personnel prior to each shift in compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Ensure adherence to Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), federal food safety regulations, and company policies.
- Plan and organize shift work to ensure timely completion of maintenance activities.
- Facilitate job training for subordinates to develop their skills.
- Build collaborative relationships across various departments.
- Coordinate maintenance processes with other internal departments to ensure seamless operations.
- Adhere to plant policies and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
- Establish and maintain an effective preventative maintenance program to ensure the continuous operation of equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance by scheduling repairs, rebuilding, restoring, and replacing faulty components to ensure timely job completion.
- Maintain a safe work environment by following legal safety standards and procedures.
- Provide input into strategic planning efforts, ensuring productivity, quality, and customer service standards are met.
- Lead safety awareness programs, including holding regular departmental safety meetings and providing timely written feedback on accidents and injuries to promote continuous improvement.
- Plan for maintenance projects by ensuring the proper materials are ordered and available to keep inventories low and reduce parts costs.
- Keep accurate records of employee work hours, vacation, and absences. Take corrective action as necessary in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Conduct employee interviews, hiring, training, performance appraisals, and corrective actions, maintaining strong employee relations.
Qualifications:
- Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferred, or at least 2 years of relevant experience in pork or beef manufacturing maintenance. A combination of education and experience is acceptable, with demonstrated supervisory experience and strong management skills.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Ability to write reports and business correspondence and speak effectively before groups. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents in English, including safety files, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to communicate with USDA, production, and management personnel effectively.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply mathematical principles to practical situations.
- Reasoning Ability: Capable of solving practical problems and interpreting a variety of written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in industry-standard computer programs, ability to learn new software, and experience with MP2 maintenance software. Experience with electrical systems, PLC controls, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and welding/fabrication skills is required.
