Summary:
A leading utilities company is seeking an experienced Project Engineer. The Project Engineer is responsible for all aspects of project engineering, project execution, and construction management work processes. This role includes developing and managing project teams, ensuring safety, controlling costs, maintaining schedules, engaging with customers, and managing contractors for construction projects. Success in this position requires close collaboration with leadership, the Engineering and Technology Manager, Project Managers, Engineers, the Procurement and Commercial Team, customers, suppliers, service providers, and contractors. The major challenge is to achieve project success by working with a diverse team, delivering on cost, schedule, and performance, maintaining strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and customers, and managing safety throughout the project life cycle.
The Project Engineer will have the following responsibilities:
- Will be required to travel up to 40% of the time during construction periods
- Ensure compliance with relevant Engineering Work Practices (EWPs)
- Create, manage, and report on project schedules from kick-off to conclusion, including critical path assessment and corrective strategies.
- Develop and manage project execution strategies covering team, schedule, engineering/design, procurement, logistics, cost control, and customer issues.
- Lead the project team to ensure deliverables and commitments are met as planned.
- Manage project control, forecast costs, and provide status reports, including negotiating with suppliers and managing claims.
- Develop and execute construction plans, including contracting strategy, schedules, logistics, and contractor selection.
- Support on-site management of construction, start-up, and commissioning with required sub-contractors.
- Act as the main point of contact for customers throughout the duration of projects.
The Project Engineer will have the following requirements and skill sets:
- B.S. in Engineering or related field
- 6 years of project engineering experience, including proficiency in scheduling and reporting using MS Project
- Hands-on experience in field construction management
- PMP certification is preferred but not required
- Proven track record of working directly with customers, effectively meeting their needs and resolving issues through strong communication skills
