Job Summary:
The Senior Produce Buyer is responsible for overseeing the procurement of fresh produce, ensuring the quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery of products to meet the company's needs. This role involves negotiating with suppliers, managing inventory, analyzing market trends, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. The Senior Produce Buyer will collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to optimize the supply chain and drive overall performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Supplier Management:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with produce suppliers and growers.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to secure favorable agreements and ensure high-quality produce.
- Evaluate supplier performance and address any issues related to product quality or delivery.
Market Analysis:
- Monitor market trends, including pricing, supply conditions, and seasonal variations, to make informed purchasing decisions.
- Analyze market data to anticipate and respond to changes in supply and demand.
Inventory Management:
- Oversee inventory levels to ensure optimal stock levels and minimize waste.
- Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure timely delivery and proper storage of produce.
Quality Control:
- Ensure that all produce meets company standards for quality and safety.
- Work with quality assurance teams to address and resolve any quality issues.
Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies to meet the company's objectives.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and supplier agreements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments, such as sales, marketing, and supply chain, to align procurement strategies with business goals.
- Provide support and guidance to junior buyers and procurement staff.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Agriculture, or a related field. Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CPIM, CSCP) is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in produce buying or procurement, with a demonstrated track record of successful supplier management and market analysis.
