The Senior Produce Buyer is responsible for overseeing the procurement, negotiation, and management of fresh produce inventory. This role requires a deep understanding of market trends, supplier relationships, and inventory management to ensure the company receives high-quality products at competitive prices. The Senior Produce Buyer works closely with suppliers, internal teams, and industry stakeholders to maintain optimal stock levels and meet the company's quality and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement Management:
- Source, negotiate, and purchase fresh produce from domestic and international suppliers.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors.
- Monitor market trends and adjust procurement strategies accordingly.
- Ensure timely delivery of products to meet the company's inventory needs.
Quality Control:
- Evaluate the quality of produce upon receipt and throughout the supply chain.
- Address and resolve any quality issues with suppliers promptly.
- Work with the quality control team to ensure compliance with company standards and regulations.
Inventory Management:
- Manage inventory levels to optimize stock and reduce waste.
- Collaborate with the inventory team to forecast demand and adjust orders as necessary.
- Implement and oversee inventory control procedures.
Market Analysis:
- Conduct market research and analysis to stay informed about industry trends, pricing, and supply chain dynamics.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on market data to support strategic decision-making.
Supplier Relations:
- Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers to achieve the best terms for the company.
- Resolve any disputes or issues that arise with suppliers in a timely manner.
- Evaluate and select new suppliers as needed.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments, including sales, logistics, and marketing, to ensure alignment with overall business goals.
- Provide training and guidance to junior buyers and other team members.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards related to food safety and procurement.
- Prepare and present reports on procurement activities, market trends, and performance metrics to senior management.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Agriculture, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in produce buying or a related field, with at least 2 years in a senior or leadership role.
