Title: Machinery Systems Inspector
Location: Houma, LA
Our client is embarking on an exciting new construction shipbuilding project on the U.S. Gulf Coast. They are seeking a skilled Machinery Systems Inspector to oversee machinery, equipment, piping, and system installations onboard their vessels.
Responsibilities:
As a Machinery-Systems Inspector, you'll be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of all installation and testing activities during vessel fabrication. Your duties will include:
- Promoting a safety-first culture and adhering to all safety guidelines during daily inspection activities.
- Verifying shipyard adherence to quality processes and industry standards.
- Ensuring compliance with specifications and manufacturer standards for machinery and equipment installations.
- Studying production drawings and testing procedures to prepare for inspections and assist with technical issues.
- Providing expert oversight for ship systems including propulsion, HVAC, firefighting, and more.
- Supporting final testing and commissioning during Dock Trials and Sea Trials as needed.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including USCG, ABS, and the shipyard.
- Independently evaluating progress against the schedule and providing updates to the Project Manager.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to access various work locations including shipyards and vessels.
- Daily inspections may involve confined spaces, climbing, and working at heights.
- Physical agility required for bending, reaching, climbing, and walking on scaffolding.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds and meet visual parameters for depth perception and color recognition.
- Exposure to various environmental factors including noise, vapors, and dust.
- Must be comfortable spending up to 80% of time in outdoor shipyard environments.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of related experience in new construction shipbuilding.
- Proficiency in marine system operations, best practices, and reading ship construction drawings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs.
- Ability to work independently and under limited supervision.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Advanced degree in Marine Engineering or related field preferred.
