Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Tool Room Manager to oversee the daily operations of our tool room. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the production, maintenance, and repair of tools, jigs, and fixtures used in the manufacturing process. This role requires a strong technical background, leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with production, engineering, and maintenance teams. The Tool Room Manager will play a critical role in ensuring the availability, quality, and efficiency of tooling to support production goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the tool room, including scheduling, production, and maintenance of tools.
- Supervise a team of toolmakers, machinists, and technicians, providing guidance, training, and support.
- Oversee the design, fabrication, repair, and modification of tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Ensure all tooling meets quality standards and production requirements.
- Coordinate with production and engineering teams to address tooling needs, modifications, and troubleshooting.
- Implement and maintain preventive maintenance programs for tools and equipment to minimize downtime.
- Monitor inventory levels of tools, parts, and materials, ensuring adequate stock is available for production.
- Develop and enforce safety protocols within the tool room, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, quality, and cost-efficiency.
- Prepare and manage the tool room budget, including procurement of new equipment and materials.
- Maintain accurate records of tooling maintenance, repairs, and modifications.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in tool room management, toolmaking, or a similar role.
- Strong technical knowledge of tooling, machining, and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency with CAD software and CNC programming.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of quality control standards and safety regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience in the automotive, aerospace, or precision manufacturing industry.
- Certification in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma.
- Familiarity with ERP systems for inventory and maintenance management.
